My "day job" is all about music and singing too. I am director and a teacher at Santa Rosa Area Music Together in Santa Rosa, California. Music Together is a widely respected curriculum for early childhood music development. We use this amazing curriculum in our parent/child classes here in Santa Rosa and Healdsburg.
There is power and community in the raising of voices together in song. I think it's one of the most compelling human activities - singing together. When I found the Music Together program I knew it was something I should be doing - bringing music into the homes of young children and their families. All little kids love music; it's part of being human. For children to eventually think of themselves as music-makers, instead of only music-consumers, it's best for them to have examples of music-making around them daily, coming from the people they love. It's my passion to help families discover ways they can help their children in their musical development. And, you know what else? It's so much fun too! That's a great thing to be able to say about your livelihood.
Most of the classes are mixed-age: birth through age four. There is also one class/week for children 5-7 years old. You can get a lot more information about our award-winning program by clicking HERE.
This winter (2011) we are enjoying spending time with over 200 families - the largest number of families in our classes ever!
Keep on singing with those little ones!
